D Srinivas Meets Sonia, Appeals For Peace
Former PCC president D Srinivas meets Congress president Sonia Gandhi, requests addressing of Seemandhra people's concerns while bifurcating AP to carve out a separate Telangana.
Former PCC president D Srinivas reiterated that the Congress-led UPA government would address all the concerns of Seemandhra people while bifurcating Andhra Pradesh to carve out a separate Telangana state.
Talking to reporters, on Friday, after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Srinivas said, "The Centre is aware of the apprehensions expressed by leaders of the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. The Congress would never mete out injustice to any region." He added that the focus would be on equal development of both the states after the formation of Telangana.
Appealing to the people of both regions, to maintain peace, he said that the geographical bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh should not divide Telugus, and that efforts should be made to ease out prevailing tension.
Earlier, Srinivas had briefed Sonia Gandhi about the present political situation in the state, in relation to the ongoing agitation in the Seemandhra region. (INN)
