110 frozen accounts were examined through a focused verification exercise, including scrutiny of identity details, transaction history and supporting documents.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Cyberabad cyber crimes police today organised a special Defreeze Accounts Mela at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, issuing No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to individuals whose bank accounts had been frozen during cyber fraud investigations.
Cyber Crimes DCP T Sai Manohar said that accounts suspected of involvement in fraudulent transactions were routinely frozen after complaints were registered through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). However, detailed verification revealed that some of the accounts belonged to individuals who were not linked to any criminal activity, he said.
In the mela, nearly 110 frozen accounts were examined through a focused verification exercise, including scrutiny of identity details, transaction history and supporting documents. Eligible account holders were granted relief after due legal procedures, ensuring protection for innocent citizens while enabling investigators to focus on organised cybercrime networks.
The police urged citizens to report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or lodging a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in. They also warned the public against sharing OTPs, passwords or banking details with anyone.
