Former PCC president D Srinivas, on Friday, reiterated that the Congress would never go back on its word on the formation of a Telangana state.
Talking to reporters at his residence, Srinivas said that Andhra Pradesh is being divided geographically, and that therefore, Telugu people would remain united even after the formation of two states. He said that Telugus from both the states would continue to be regarded with the same respect in foreign countries that they are now, after tje state's bifurcation.
He added that the decision to form Telangana was taken only after a consensus.
Stating that there is no dearth of natural resources in coastal Andhra, he said that the new state of Andhra Pradesh would register faster growth rate after its formation, and that thus, there should be no concerns over a lack of development.
He said that the disputes over the sharing of Godavari and Krishna waters would be resolved by the Central Water Commission. He also said that Telangana had remained backward in the last 60 years since no agreement signed for the region was properly honoured. (INN
