Telangana Mining & Industries Minister K T Rama Rao today ridiculed the Congress for making false allegations of corruption and irregularities in sand mining.
KTR took to Twitter and reacted strongly to the charges by the opposition party. Condemning the allegations as baseless and mischievous, the minister expressed surprise over the Congress leaders talking ethics and seeking steps against the sand mafia. He said that the Congress leaders had habitually pocketed huge money from sand mining revenues instead of adding it to the state's exchequer during their regime, and used the proverb "ulta chor kotwal ko dante" to describe their allegations now.
The minister claimed that the TRS government had taken stringent measures at all levels against the sand mining irregularities and had secured an income of Rs 400 crores a year.
"In four years, we have realized a total of Rs 1,609 crores through sand mining across the state," he said.
In contrast, the minister said, the previous government had gotten a total of Rs 39 crores from 2004 to 2014 from the activity, and sought to know where the funds had gone during the Congress regime.
