Telangana Congress leaders have decided not to field their senior leader V Hanumantha Rao once again (he is a current Rajya Sabha member whose term is about to expire) for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Rao said that the Congress leaders had extended support to TRS candidate Dr K Keshav Rao when the latter contested for a Rajya Sabha seat earlier, and so the State Congress naturally expected that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would extend support to the Congress candidate this time, but the TRS fielded two candidates (D Srinivas and Captain Lakshminatha Rao) for the two Rajya Sabha seats leaving no chance for the Congress. VHR said that he therefore withdrew his idea of contesting the elections.
Telangana CLP leader Jana Reddy said the Congress party didn't want to pollute politics by fielding VHR in the Rajya Sabha election fray.
Leader of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said his Party would celebrate the Telangana Formation Day as a day to extend thanks to Sonia Gandhi. He also said that the Party leaders would hoist the national flag on June 2 in all the districts across the State.
