Senior Congress leader and former PCC President V Hanumantha Rao today tested positive for the coronavirus in Hyderabad.
Rao had been suffering from ill-health for the last two days. Keeping the symptoms in mind, the doctors collected samples from him, which tested positive for the virus.
Rao has been admitted at a private hospital and is being treated. Authorities of the state government are now planning to conduct tests on his family members. The family members are now under home quarantine.
The supporters of VHR had distributed 100 shawls to the poor people of the state on the occasion of his birthday a few days back. His family members said that Rao fell ill the same day.
However he could have been infected much earlier. VHR had toured several areas during the lockdown and took part in several protest programs held by the party and himself personally. He also took part in the Jala Deeksha program held by the Congress recently.
The officials are now gathering the details of the protest programs he participated in and the leaders he met.
Several public representatives of Telangana have already become infected by the virus, including TRS MLAs M Yadagiri Reddy, Bajireddy Govardhan and Beegala Ganesh Gupta who are now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
