Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Assembly, K Jana Reddy of the Congress, on Wednesday sought the disqualification of Yellandu MLA K Kankaiah.
Reddy, along with other Congress MLAs, met Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Madhusudana Chary at his chambers in the Assembly, and urged him to disqualify the Yellandu MLA for defecting to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Speaking to media persons later, Jana Reddy said that the TRS was setting an unhealthy trend of encouraging defections in Opposition Parties.
He said that the people of Yellandu had voted in favour of the Congress, and therefore Kankaiah should have resigned from the post before joining the TRS.
He described the acts of revolt as immoral and unethical.
Reddy advised Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to either refrain from encouraging defections in the Congress Party or face agitations. (INN)
