The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) ridiculed MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for proclaiming that his Party had proved itself secular by fielding a Hindu candidate from the Puranapul division in the GHMC elections.
In a pressnote on Saturday, TPCC official spokesperson G Niranjan stated the MIM supremo's proclamation would be justified only if he expelled his foul-mouthed Party leader and brother Syed Akbaruddin Owaisi for his provocative and communal utterances. Asaduddin Owaisi branding his Party as secular just because it fielded a Hindu against a Muslim candidate of the Congress was ridiculous, Niranjan said.
The Congress leader pointed out that the MIM had been fielding Sunnam Rajmohan as its candidate strategically since the last three GHMC elections because a good number of voters in that constituency belonged to Rajmohan's community. People would have agreed with Asaduddin Owaisi that his Party was secular had he fielded at least 10 to 15 Hindu candidates in the Muslim-dominated areas in the Old City, he added.
Niranjan stated that the citizens of Hyderabad were aware of the Owaisi brothers' communal and provocative hate speeches and their hatred towards the people of other religions. He said Akbaruddin Owaisi's heinous remarks against the women and men of other communities during his election meeting at Hafiz Baba Nagar on January 30 were a fatal blow to secularism.
The Majlis supremo could justifiably proclaim his Party as secular only if he dared to expel his brother from the Party, Niranjan stated.
