CM Reviews Power Situation With Officials

There has been a steep increase in the demand for power, thanks to the severity of the summer, a fall in ground water table, and an enormous increase in consumption by the domestic sector.
Hyderabad | 6th June 2012
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Wednesday, reviewed the power sector with Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi and other officials, and asked them to maintain providing adequate power supply to consumers, and to concentrate on long-term power generation.

The Chief Minister reviewed the latest power position and other energy issues with the Chief Secretary and other senior officials, at the camp office today.

The officials informed him that due to the severity of the summer and the heat wave, a fall in ground water table, and an enormous increase in consumption by the domestic sector, there has been a steep increase in the demand for power.

The shortfall between supply and demand has increased up to 22%, the officials said, and stated that once the monsoon sets in, the position would improve, and the demand will come down proportionately.

The CM has asked the officials to make all-out efforts to meet the demand. He also asked them to chalk out plans and concentrate on long-term generation, including mini hydel projects, and solar and wind power generation schemes.

Singareni Collieries CMD Sutheertha Bhattacharya, AP Transco CMD Hiralal Samaria and other senior officials participated in the meeting. (INN)
