Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today conveyed his greetings to people of the state on the eve of Ugadi, the Telugu new year.
He promised to focus on developing the state's irrigation infrastructure in the coming year, and said that it was a "good omen" that even nature seemed to be favouring the TRS government's vision to make Telangana a water-abundant state.
"Ugadi, the beginning of the agricultural year, is primarily a festival of farmers. It welcomes the end of winter and the start of spring. The occasion ushers in new enthusiasm and is a time of joy for farmers who start their cultivation works after the celebration. Tomorrow, everybody will enjoy the Ugadi Pacchadi, made of fresh Neem flowers, tamarind, raw mango, sugarcane and other ingredients, which symbolises the various divergent experiences of life. People in Telangana who tasted bitterness under the rulers of united Andhra Pradesh are now enjoying sweet experiences under the Telangana government," the CM said.
Elaborating on the "sweetness" of life in Telangana, KCR added, "Our government has harnessed, stored and then pumped water to higher planes above the mean sea level through lifts, tunnels, canals and barrages and has made one crore acres of land fertile and arable. Even at the peak of summer, tanks in Telangana are brimming with water, helping farmers get bumper yields. Schemes like the Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bhima have made agriculture profitable in our state. Our farmers are filled with hope and joy now. We have shouldered the responsibility of working towards their welfare. To unite the agrarian community, we have formed many Rythu Bandhu Samithies all over the state and constructed Rythu Vedikas in almost every village. All the agriculture-allied professions are also becoming profitable. By spending about Rs 50,000 crore a year on welfare, we have secured the livelihoods of all persons working in the agriculture sector. Apart from this, we have launched several welfare programs for the other sections of society as well. We will continue to work to bring happiness to our farmers and the rest of our people in the new year as well."
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also extended her wishes to the people of the state on the occasion.
In a message, Soundararajan said, "On this happy and auspicious occasion of Sri Plava Nama
Samvatsara, the Telugu new year, I extend my heartiest greetings to the people of Telangana and to all the Telugu people living in different parts of the world. Ugadi, a festival of joy and hope, will bring with it a year of good health, happiness, prosperity, bright futures and safe environs. I am confident that Sri Plava Nama Samvatsaram will usher in a healthy and pandemic-free life for all the people of our world. I hope the new year fills all people with courage in their fight against the second wave of Covid-19, and that we emerge victorious. Let us pledge on the eve of Ugadi that we will all stay healthy by strictly complying with the Covid-19 safety and prevention norms."
