The ill-treatment meted out to Chandrababu Naidu and his team, including their arrest and subsequent detention in an Aurangabad jail, sparked off state-wide protests by the Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday.
Party workers staged rasta rokos and rail rokos, burnt effigies of Rosaiah, destroyed buses, and staged dharnas on the streets. Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khamma, Visakhapatnam and Prakasam were among the districts that were witness to the violent protests.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man from Dharmavaram in West Godavari committed suicide on Saturday night over Naidu's arrest. The man, Jonnakoti Wilson Raju, wanted to stage protests against the arrest, but his attempts to reach out to local TDP leaders failed. He then consumed pesticide, leaving behind a note. Naidu has announced an aid of Rs. 2 lakh rupees to his bereaved family.
