Centre Hostile Towards TRS Government: K Kavitha

The Nizamabad MP alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was not fulfilling the assurances made in the Andhra Pradesh Re-Organization Act.
Hyderabad | 22nd November 2015
Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was not fulfilling the assurances made in the Andhra Pradesh Re-Organization Act.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Kavitha alleged that the Centre was showing a step-motherly attitude towards the infant Telangana state.

She pointed out that the Centre was doggedly not dividing the High Court though the new State had been formed several months ago. Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda had raised the High Court issue to win in the last MLC elections, but kept the issue aside after the elections, she alleged.

Pointing an accusing finger at senior Congress leader and former Union minister S Jaipal Reddy and BJP State president G Kishan Reddy, Kavitha said that neither of the leaders was raising the High Court issue with the Centre.

The Centre had also cancelled the funds meant for small projects in Telangana, she alleged.

Reminding people that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had taken 14 issues to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June last year, Kavitha alleged that the Centre had not fulfilled even a single assurance.

The Centre was also least bothered about the appeal of the Chief Minister for release of funds for the development of the GHMC, she alleged.

She also said that though Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had released thousands of crores of rupees for the development of Amaravathi, the proposed new capital of Andhra Pradesh, he was not releasing a single rupee for the Musi river's development.

The Centre was liberally allotting educational institutes to Andhra Pradesh, she said, but did not respond when Telangana sought a tribal university as the tribal population had increased after the division of the united State. Also, the Centre had allotted a horticulture university for Telangana and promised funds for the same, but had now changed its tune saying it would not give funds.

The Centre had also allotted Rs 2,000 crores to Andhra Pradesh alone from the Rs 4,000 crores allocated for the housing scheme across the nation, she mentioned.

While the Telangana government had no problem if the Centre released excess funds to Andhra Pradesh, it appeared that the Centre was clearly discriminating against and doing injustice to Telangana, she said, and added that the TRS would raise Telangana's problems in the upcoming session of Parliament.

Finding fault with Kishan Reddy for accusing the Telangana government of non-performance, Kavitha said it was not proper for the State BJP chief to criticize Telangana needlessly.
