The Union Government today announced a sanction of drought relief to all States, and Telangana got Rs 280.91 crores as against its demand for Rs 3,604 crores.
Andhra Pradesh also got the same amount - Rs 280.91 crores.
Tamil Nadu was allocated a large share of the funds, Rs 1,773 crores, probably to help its capital city Chennai and the adjoining areas battered in the recent deluge. Himachal Pradesh got the least amount, of Rs 170.19 crores.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who chaired a high-level meeting in the national capital, finalized the allocations, that were then announced. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh, Home Secretary Rajiv Maharshi, and officials of the Finance, Home and Agriculture departments attended the crucial meeting.
The group decided on the quantum of funds for the various States based on the reports submitted by the Central official teams that visited the drought-affected States.
Radhamohan Singh in January had announced Rs 791 crores for Telangana towards drought relief. With this, Telangana gets a total of Rs 1,071.91 crores, which need to be used by the government to take up measures in the 231 mandals declared as drought-affected.
