Centre Asks Telangana To Return Diverted NREGS Funds

The union government has administered a shock to the Telangana government over the diversion of MGNREGS funds to the State.
Hyderabad | 28th November 2022
The union government has administered a shock to the Telangana government over the diversion of MGNREGS funds to the State.

It issued notices to the State government asking it to remit the diverted funds to it (the union government), amounting to Rs 152 crore, by November 30.

It also warned that it would stop the next instalments of the funds if the amount was not returned.

A team of the union government visited the State government from June 9 to 12 of this year and found that the State government had diverted MGNREGS funds for non-MGNREGS works. It also said that some irregularities had taken place in the implementation of the program in Telangana, and submitted a report to the union government.

The team also told the State government that it had the powers to take action against the latter if it did not respond to its demand.
