The electioneering has come to an end for the by-election to be held for the Medak Lok Sabha seat on September 13.
Nearly 14 lakh voters will decide the fate of 14 candidates who are in the fray.
While the polling will be held on Saturday, the counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on September 16.
The Medak Lok Sabha seat fell vacant due to the resignation of K Chandrasekhar Rao after he decided to retain the Gajwel assembly seat so as to become the Chief Minister of Telangana.
The by-elections have witnessed a triangular contest between the TRS, Congress and BJP.
While the TRS fielded multi-millionaire Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, the Congress party nominated former minister Sunitha Lakshma Reddy as its candidate.
In a surprise move in the last hour, the BJP fielded former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy as its candidate.
The TRS is confident of retaining the seat primarily due to the Telangana sentiment. However, the Congress party is hoping for a revival in the by-polls, and has carried out an intense campaign highlighting the failures of the TRS government in the first 100 days of its regime.
The BJP-TDP combine is confident of winning the seat upon the promises of development through the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. (INN)
