Senior Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka today slammed the rivals of his party, the TRS and the BJP, and added that the two parties did not even have a history of fighting for the freedom of the country.
He told the media that the leaders of both parties were "forced to garner support and gain publicity using posters with the faces of leaders of the Congress".
The leader then said that Independence Day was a time to remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters of the country, and added, "Leaders like Jawharlal Nehru, Gopalakrishna Gokhale, Lala Lajpat Rai, Motilal Nehru, M K Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhai Patel and B R Ambedkar had devoted their lives to the Indian freedom struggle. This 75th year of our independence is the fruit of the labours of such leaders of the Congress. After independence too, it was our party that had laid the very foundation for the development of the country with its five-year plans. It was also our party that built the country on strong democratic ideals. But today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rule is destroying the Indian economy and its independence"
Reitrating his claims, Vikramarka alleged that the TRS and the BJP were using the names and legacies of the leaders of India's grand old party, including Sardar Vallabhai Patel and P V Narasimha Rao, for political mileage.
