The 9-day Bathukamma - a state festival that united all the womenfolk and girls in the 10 districts of Telangana - will be culminating at the Tank Bund on the evening of October 20.
The floral festival will end in a grand spectacle attended by Governor E S L Narasimhan, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and other prominent leaders.
As an eye-catching precursor to the evening, about 20,000 women coming from every district, and tableaux including 3,000 artists will begin their procession at L B Stadium to reach the Tank Bund. Arrangements have also been made for a firecracker blitzkreig at the venue.
The State government has declared a holiday for its offices on October 20 to enable its employees and the general public to celebrate the event in a big way.
To ensure a smooth show, the Chief Minister today conducted a review meeting with officials and asked them to make fool-proof arrangements for the mega event. The lake and its adjoining areas should be made clean and green, and have essential facilities for crowds, barricades and security, he said.
To ensure that the same fervour is seen all over the rest of the State, Telangana Jagruthi chief and MP Kavitha is on a whirlwind tour of all districts to galvanize the people in the hinterland to actively participate in the festivities.
The government has also released Rs 10 crores for Bathukamma to be celebrated in Mumbai, Dubai and about 28 states in America.
