Left parties observed the anniversary of the 2000 incident in which 3 were killed in Basheerbagh in police firing in a protest against power tariff hike.
Left parties on Sunday threatened to launch a massive agitation against the state government if it continues to ignore farners' problems.
Talking to reporters at Basheerbagh crossroads on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the firing incident at the area, CPI national Dy Secretary S Sudhakara Reddy said that the state government must take measures to ensure that the common man does not face problems.
Recalling the 2000 incident in which three people were killed in police firing in a protest against power tariff hike, he said that the then TDP government had tried to suppress the people's voice.
He said the CPI would always oppose anti-people policies of both the central and the state governments.
CPM State secretary B V Raghavulu said that 3 persons were martyred in the Basheerbagh firing incident, and that their sacrifice would not go in vain. He said his party would continue its campaign against what he called the ill-designs of the World Bank.
Later, hundreds of workers belonging to Left parties took an oath saying that they would launch protests whenever governments adopt anti-people policies. (INN)
