Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday vowed to stall proceedings in the state Assembly till the government announced a comprehensive package for the rain-affected farmers.
The TDP chief also stated that his party workers will blockade the state and national highways if the government did not give concrete assurances on Friday about the problems of the rain-hit farmers.
The former Chief Minister, on a tour to the rain-hit areas of Nalgonda and Guntur, lambasted the government for its failure to provide succour to the farmers who have been hit by heavy rains in coastal areas due to depression in the Bay of Bengal.
Naidu told media persons during his tour of Nalgonda district that the government was becoming more and more inefficient with each natural calamity. He accused the administration of becoming lethargic, while the government was ignoring the problems faced by the people.
The TDP chief toured Miryalguda, Kothagudem, Damaracherla and other areas where he met farmers, and inspected damaged paddy.
Later, in Guntur district, Naidu demanded that the government provided assistance to the affected farmers immediately.
He also demanded that the recommendations made by the Swaminathan Commission should be implemented in letter and spirit to provide succour to the farmers.
