The Andhra Pradesh government has issued orders to impart English medium teaching in all its schools from the academic year 2020-21.
According to the orders issued on Wednesday, English will be the medium of education in all the schools run by the school education department, the ST department, the Panchayat Raj department, and the municipal administration and urban development department of the state.
However, the state government has given exemption to minority residential schools from the GO.
English is already the medium of teaching in mandal and ZP high schools, and will continue.
It may be noted here that the state government had invited the parents of the children of the state to reveal their choice of medium of education from the next academic year.
A total of 17,96,168 parents had given their options. Of these, only 53,943 people had opted for Telugu as the medium of education.
The state government has therefore decided to run only one Telugu medium school in every mandal of the state, for those who opt for Telugu medium education.
