53.75% of girls have passed the exams, while the passing percentage of boys was just 49.73%.
Girls have outperformed boys in the first year Intermediate Public Examination, the results of which were announced in Hyderabad on Friday.
Releasing the results at the office of the Board Of Intermediate Education, Secondary Education Minister K Parathasarathy said that 53.75% of girls have passed the exams, while the passing percentage of boys was just 49.73%.
Of 8,50,433 students who appeared in the general category, 53.75% cleared the exam. This year, more students have passed the exam with an A grade, securing 75% or more marks.
While 41.45% got an A grade, 32.21% scored 60-75%, with a B grade. As many as 18.81% of the students scored 50-60%, with a C grade, and 8.16% got a D grade with 35-50% marks.
The minister said that 155 students were booked under malpractice, and that the results of 17 students have been withheld.
Parathasarathy said that the results of this year's Inter first year were better than those of the previous 2 years. While the passing percentage in 2010 was 48.56%, and in 2011 was 52.21%, this year, it was 53.75%.
Krishna district was on top with highest pass percentage of 71%, and Mahabubnagar was behind all, with 37%.
Krishna district, with a 71% pass percentage, was followed by Visakhapatnam (65), Ranga Reddy (63), Nellore (61), Guntur (61), Chittoor (58), West Godavari (57), East Godavari (55), Hyderabad (55), Prakasam (53), Kurnool (52), Vizianagaram (51), Khammam (50), Srikakulam (50), Kadapa (48), Adilabad (47), Karimnagar (47), Warangal (45), Nalgonda (44), Medak (41), Nizamabad (38) and Mahabubnagar (37).
The minister said that the marks register of all colleges would be dispatched to the Regional Inspection Officers concerned, within 2 days. The principals of the colleges must collect them from RIOs immediately and display in them in their premises.
Principals can also collect the Memoranda of marks from the Regional Inspection Officers on 25 April, and ensure that they are given to the candidates at the earliest.
The minister said that there was a proposal to display the results, college-wise, on the BIE's website.
He added that discrepancies, if any, found in the Memorandum of marks must be referred to the Board through the principals concerned, before 21 May. Applications received after this date will not be entertained.
The last date for the payment of the examination fee for the Intermediate Advanced Supplementary Examinations, May/June 2012, is 2 May. There is no provision for the payment of the examination fee with penalty after the due date.
Candidates who have passed in all papers can appear for improvement exams, on payment of Rs. 100 per paper in addition to the normal examination fee.
These candidates will appear with the same registration numbers of the IPE of March 2012. The better between the old and new performances will be considered, for candidates who have passed in all subjects.
Candidates who have failed the first year intermediate exams can appear for passed papers of the first year also, along with failed papers, subject to the condition that they shall forego the previous performance of passed papers. In such cases, only the latest performance stands valid.
The candidate must pay Rs. 100 for each passed paper, in addition to the examination fee as mentioned in the Extracted Nominal Roll. (INN)
