2G Scam: PM Cleared By PAC, PMO Not

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given a clean chit to PM Manmohan Singh, and has questioned the PMO's role in the 2G scam.
Hyderabad | 27th April 2011
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given a clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the 2G spectrum probe. However, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has come under the PAC's scanner for irregularities in the 2G dealings.

Headed by BJP leader M M Joshi, the PAC charged the PMO of failing to deliver the facts regarding the 2G dealings to Singh. The PAC questioned the role of the PMO in the 2G scam, stating that the PMO could have acted faster in the 2G case.

The PM had reportedly received a letter from the PMO notifying him about a few details regarding the issuance of 2G licences on 3rd January 2010. But Singh was not informed that then telecom minister A Raja was issuing the licences between 3rd and 10th January.

It has been established that former telecom minister Raja took advantage of the delay in the presentation of information to the PM by the PMO, and sold the 2G licences for extremely low prices.
