Stressing on the importance of Andhra Pradesh remaining integrated, noted columnist Kuldip Nayar on Sunday stated that small states do not necessarily bring about prosperity.
Participating in a press meet in Vijayawada, the eminent journalist stated that the people in Punjab are now realising that bifurcation of the state was a big mistake.
Nayar predicted that those who are at present demanding a separate Telangana state will soon realize that a smaller state will not be such a good thing.
The esteemed journalist stated that the lack of transparency in the political system had forced the judiciary to play a more proactive role in the country. He said that the judiciary was virtually ruling the country these days.
This has led to the people's expectations from the judiciary increasing, partly because of the failure of the political class, he pointed out.
Nayar said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could have done more to curb the spread of black money and tax evasion, but the 'coalition dharma' had rendered him powerless, he stated.
Nayar revealed that he would be going to Pakistan as a part of his efforts to improve Indo-Pak relations.
Speaking on the role of media in the society, the senior journalist said that media plays, and should play, a constructive role. However, it should not cross the 'Lakshman Rekha', he stated.

Though divide and rule policy is expected to be deneficial ,considering the degradation of morals in our present society, I vote against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The coastal and rayalaseema regions will face water and employment crises. Most of our state funding is in hyderabad,it will take decades for the other regions to develope.
