A youth identified as Vijay died this morning after a workout at the Nizam College gymnasium.
He was a former student of the college, and was staying in a private hostel in Gunfoundry.
Police said that Vijay, who was overweight, had started working out in the gym a couple of days ago. On Thursday morning, too, he had a workout session, during which he felt uneasy. He returned to his room and fell unconscious. His friends shifted him to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police suspect the youth died of dehydration-led cardiac arrest, given that he had been working out excessively and eating little for a few days.
Mild tension prevailed at the college after students and others staged a protest about the lack of a trainer at the gym.
