The All-India Yadav Mahasabha today urged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to field one of the members of former Nagarjuna Sagar MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah's family in the upcoming by-election in the constituency.
The by-election has been necessitated by Narsimhaiah's sudden passing
, last December.
Addressing the media, the state president of the organisation Baddula Babu Rao Yadav praised Narsimhaiah for his work as an MLC, and said, "Nomula Narsimhaiah had been elected twice as MLA from the Nakrekal constituency in undivided-Andhra Pradesh, and once from the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency in Telangana, after defeating senior Congress leader and incumbent MLA K Jana Reddy. He had served the people with utmost dedication and commitment. In his tenure as Nagarjuna Sagar MLA, he had worked tirelessly towards the development of the area."
Babu Rao Yadav then urged the CM to honour the former MLA's legacy by giving the latter's kin the chance to carry forward his vision. He pointed out that it had always been a tradition in Telangana to field the family members of the public representatives in such situations anyway, and appealed to KCR to act in accordance with the norm.
Saying that the community had no representation in the Greater Hyderabad region, the Yadav leader also appealed to the CM to grant one nominated post to a leader of the community.
He then thanked the CM and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav for taking up the second phase of the sheep distribution program in the state.
Yadav Mahasabha Vice Presidents M Rajender Yadav and M Balamallesh Yadav, and General Secretary P Srihari Yadav also attended the meeting.
The meeting was reportedly held after speculations that the TRS would not field a member of Narsimhaiah's family started doing the rounds. The reason for the ruling party's decision, many believe, may be its failure to win the Dubbaka by-election
held last year, using the "sympathy card".
