Y S Rajasekhara Reddy left the mortal world on 2 September 2009, and nearly 2 years later, his supporters are still grief-stricken over his death. Or so believes his son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
6 months after YSR's death, Jagan embarked on a 10-day Odarpu Yatra to meet the families of those who either committed suicide or died of shock upon learning of YSR's unfortunate death in a helicopter crash.
This event was opposed by the Congress High Command, and Jagan was directed to call off his yatra. The young leader refused to do so, stating that the Odarpu Yatra was a personal mission, and that it had nothing to do with politics.
The
2nd phase of his Odarpu Yatra was launched on 28 March 2011, but was called off 3 days later, as the Election Commission had announced the by-election schedule for the Kadapa constituency, and Jagan had to concentrate on wooing voters.
The discontinued Odarpu Yatra was charted such that the leader could cover 30 mandals and 4 municipalities in 9 constituencies of the Vizianagaram district, spanning over 580kms, over a period of 9 days.
The members of the YSR Congress Party have announced that Jagan will resume his condolence tour on May 14th, a day after the declaration of the Kadapa by-election results, and cover all the remaining areas.
The Vizianagaram leaders belonging to other political parties are awaiting the resumption of Jagan's tour, as it would help them gauge his popularity among the people of the district.
