4 days after a
minor fire in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) led to a loss of about Rs. 100 crores, another mishap that occurred in the plant led to the spillage of about 150 tonnes of molten steel.
According to reports, the molten steel spilled after the massive ladle that was transporting it started leaking.
However, no casualty has been reported in the incident. Preliminary estimates have put the losses at crores of rupees.
Meanwhile, the authorities in charge of the plant have stated that the loss to property is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, on April 10th, a fire that had broken out in the CC-2 wing of the plant had been estimated to have done a damage of Rs. 100 crores.
The cited fire was detected in the Medium Merchant Structural Mill (MMSM) department of the VSP. The fire department had stated that some leaked liquid fuel was ignited by a short circuit, and had lead to the blaze. (INN)
