The South Central Railway will observe ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ from October 29 to November 3, as per the directions of the Central Vigilance Commission.
According to the SCR, the theme of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week is ‘Transparency in Public Procurement’. The SCR Vigilance Branch will organize several programmes during this week to disseminate awareness about corruption and malpractices amongst the zonal railway headquarters office, six railway divisions and five railway workshops besides a few extra divisional offices in the entire South Central Railway, all of which have a total strength of nearly one lakh employees.
The Vigilance Awareness Week will commence with the employees of all units taking an integrity pledge on October 29, to be honest in discharging their duties and desist from indulging in corrupt practices. The pledge will be administered by SCR General Manager G.N.Asthana at the Zonal Headquarters. Later, a special programme will be organized in the SCR Headquarters wherein the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Principal Advisor Dr E Sreedharan will deliver the key note address on the topic ‘Ethics in Management - Lessons from the Corporate World’.
A team of Vigilance Officers led by Chief Vigilance Officer K Swaminathan will visit the divisional and extra divisional units to hold workshops on Vigilance Management, wherein divisional / extra divisional unit officers and supervisors will participate. The objective will be on combating corruption in the railways by awakening the consciousness and increasing the participation of railway officers and staff in Vigilance Management.
In a media release, the SCR said that on this occasion, Vigilance Department has taken steps to popularize the telephone numbers of Vigilance Branch including a mobile no. 97013 70053 to enable any time contact through SMS/MMS by displaying posters at all railway staff and public contact areas.
The display of important public information duly updated to reach customers through SCR’s website, is another area of emphasis through this awareness campaign, the press release added. (INN)
