Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Tuesday directed Chief Secretary S V Prasad to ensure that the implementation of the "Aadhaar" scheme was being done in a transparent manner.
The Chief Minister was particular that Andhra Pradesh, which will be the first State to implement the Unique Identification Number, be a role-model for the transparency and accountability of the scheme.
The Chief Secretary today reviewed the progress of the implementation of the "Aadhaar" scheme with the Commissioner, Civil Supplies, Sanjay Jaju, and other officials, at Secretariat. The Chief Secretary directed the Civil Supplies Commissioner to complete the tendering process in a transparent manner and as per the decisions of the Tender Committee.
The purpose of the "Aadhaar" system if numbering is to establish the identity of a resident and to provide secure access for the resident to a service/benefit offered by the system. The Aadhaar number is generated by taking demographic data and biometric viz. finger prints and 'iris' capture. The Commissioner of Civil Supplies is the Registrar for the first phase to be implemented in 7 districts of East Godavari, Srikakulam, Adilabad, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Chittoor and Anantapur.
