The teaching and non-teaching staff of Telangana's universities expressed their resentment against the indifferent attitude of the Government of Telangana towards universities of the State, by wearing black badges on Tuesday in response to a call given by the JAC of TSFUTA & TUNTEA.
The teaching and non-teaching staff of the universities are demanding that the Telangana Government allocate grants to meet their salaries and pensions.
The universities are facing severe financial crises and are unable to pay the salaries and pensions. Osmania University has stopped the payment of pension, gratuity and commutation to the teaching and non-teaching staff who have retired from the service, since January 2014.
The universities, particularly Osmania University, are not even crediting the Provident Fund and other deductions made in the salaries of employees to their respective accounts.
The DA arrears for January-April 2014 and July-September 2014, the UGC RSP 2006 arrears which were part of salary, and pension arrears to those teachers who were retired prior to 2006, have not been paid due to paucity of funds in the University.
"The teaching staff and non-teaching staff associations have made several representations to the government to allocate grants to pay salaries and pensions to the employees and pensioners of Telangana's universities. However, the government has not heeded the request of the associations. Under these circumstances, the teaching and non-teaching staff associations have formed a Joint Action Committee and decided to go on the path of agitation," said Telangana State Federation of University Teachers' Association Chairman Prof. B. Satyanarayana.
As a part of the agitation, the teachers and non-teachers observed a black day by wearing black badges on Tuesday in all the universities of Telangana.
Further, the JAC of teaching and non-teaching staff of Telangana universities has decided to organize a "Maha Dharna" on 13th November in front of the administrative buildings of their respective universities.
"The JAC of teaching and non-teaching staff associations once again requests the State Government to release grants to enable payment of salaries and pensions of the teaching and non-teaching staff of Telangana universities immediately to avoid any unpleasant situations in the university campuses of Telangana," Prof. Satyanarayana said.
