The Telangana agitation may have not proved helpful to the business community for its growth, but for Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas it has come as a blessing in disguise.
The All India Congress Committee on Friday decided to continue with D Srinivas as the APCC president, despite him having lost 2 elections successively.
According to an official statement by the AICC, he will continue to hold office till further orders are issued.
The decision was taken keeping in mind the increasingly strident calls for a separate Telangana. The high command's decision to continue with D Srinivas, who hails from Telangana, is largely seen as a carrot to keep the Congress leaders interested.
Calls to ouster the APCC chief from the post had started to come in from various quarters in the Congress after he lost his second election from Nizamabad urban constituency in the recently held by-elections.
Srinivas's appointment as the APCC chief for the third time shows that the Centre is keeping Telangana leaders' in mind. The next move by the Centre, according to political watchers, is the possibility of appointing a deputy chief minister from the region.
On receiving the news, Srinivas said he would carry out his duties responsibly and work for the upliftment of the Congress.
