The race for the upcoming Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections will be a tough one with the number of contenders for the 60 wards of the KMC increasing steadily.
Pawan Kalyan's JSP has also decided to contest in the municipal corporation elections. The party has tied up with its longtime-ally, the BJP, in the elections.
The two parties have come to an understanding over the issue of seat-sharing in the KMC. The district leaders of the two parties held lengthy discussions in Khammam this evening to fine-tune all aspects of the alliance.
JSP leaders Sankar Goud, Sriram Talluri and V Rama Rao, Telangana BJP Vice President C Ramachandra Reddy and the party's Kisan Morcha head Kondapally Sridhar Reddy took part in the discussions.
Leaders from the two parties have decided to meet once again to finalise the number of divisions they will each be contesting for.
Meanwhile, a total of 377 nominations were filed today, the last day for the filing of nominations for the civic body elections. This has brought up the total number of contenders to 522.
While 163 candidates from the TRS have filed their papers, 125 Congress candidates, 84 BJP candidates, 35 CPI(M) candidates, 16 TDP candidates, 7 CPI candidates and 76 candidates will be contesting in the elections as well.
What makes things interesting is the fact that there may well be two strong alliances in the elections - reports suggest that the TRS and the CPI have also struck up an alliance.
All the contenders for the seat have already started to campaign aggressively to woo the voters of Khammam town ahead of the April 30 elections.
