High Court Orders Arrests Of Two Top Bureaucrats

The Legislature Secretary and Law Secretary were arrested for not appearing before the court in the Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar expulsion case.
Hyderabad | 15th February 2019
The Telangana High Court on Friday heard the case relating to the expulsions from the previous Assembly of Congress members Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar.

During the hearing, the judges expressed displeasure over the negligent behaviour of Additional AG Ramachandra Rao.

In the related contempt of court case, Legislature Secretary Narasimha Charyulu and Law Secretary Niranjan Rao also appeared before the court and submitted their explanations. Not satisfied with their submissions, the High Court directed the Judicial Registrar to take the two officers into custody and release them only after they submitted a Rs 5,000 bond each. Accordingly, the two fulfilled the condition and were released from custody.

The counsel for the two ex-MLAs termed that as effective arrest, and said that the Secretaries were basically out on bail.

In the same case, the High Court issued another notice to former Telangana Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary, the Director General of Police and the Superintendents of Police of Gadwal and Nalgonda districts.

The case was adjourned to March 8 after making the Union Home Ministry too a respondent.
