The Telangana Congress has decided to hold year-long centenary birthday celebrations of late Congress leader and former Prime Minister of the country P V Narasimha Rao.
TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that party president Sonia Gandhi had issued orders to that effect, and announced the constitution of a committee for holding the celebrations.
Talking about the achievements of Rao, Reddy said that the Land Ceiling Act introduced by Rao was historic. He said that Rao and Manmohan Singh had together taken the country on the path of economic progress, and that the former PM was the leader and teacher of the current crop of Congress leaders in the state. He also said that he himself was an ardent fan of Rao and that he used to discuss many issues with the former PM during his stint at the Rastrapathi Bhavan. He said that he (Reddy) had accompanied the former PM during his foreign trips, and that even Rao used to like him a lot.
He said that the Congress had passed a resolution demanding the Bharat Ratna for Rao, and that he would press for the honour to Rao in Parliament.
He also said that the party would invite Rao's family to all the party programs.
