Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced today that the State government would constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Outer Ring Road (ORR) toll contract.
He said that the modalities of the probe would be discussed in the Cabinet, and that the investigation would follow established procedures.
"Considering BRS MLA Harish Rao's plea, we are ordering a detailed investigation with the approval of all the members in the House," Reddy said.
The Chief Minister credited former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy with securing the funds for and constructing the ORR, and accused the previous BRS government of "selling" the project by handing it over to a private company.
"The Congress government transformed Hyderabad into a cosmopolitan city by establishing the airport, ORR and IT district. Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy led efforts to draw water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers to meet the needs of the people. It was the Congress that introduced the metro rail to Hyderabad. All the credit for Hyderabad becoming an international city goes to the Congress, not to any other party," Reddy claimed."However, leaders of the past government disposed of ORR assets with the intent of leaving the country."
Responding to the CM's order for an SIT inquiry, former minister Harish Rao said that he had not requested an investigation into the ORR toll tender, but welcomed the move.
He also demanded that the tender be cancelled before proceeding with the inquiry.
