The Telangana Congress on Saturday demanded that the Telangana government make the Sudhir Commission Report on the minorities public.
Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail said that the State government should place the report, which was submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday, in the public domain.
"The Commission Of Inquiry headed by retired IAS officer G Sudhir was constituted under the Commissions Of Inquiry Act 1952. Its contents pertain to the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in the State. Therefore it is not a classified document. It should be made public without any delay," he said.
Abdullah Sohail, who recently spearheaded the 12% Muslim reservation campaign, said that the minorities had the right to information regarding the recommendations made by the Sudhir Commission before it went for Cabinet approval.
"Since the Sudhir Commission was projected as a prelude to providing 12% reservation for Muslims in the educational sector and jobs in Telangana, the people are keen to know whether or not the Commission recommended quota proportionate to the Muslim population. The government should act on this report in a totally transparent manner," he demanded.
The Congress leader pointed out that the TRS was a part of the Congress government when the latter provided 5% reservations for Muslims in the then united Andhra Pradesh, and was aware of the issues involved in reservations for Muslims.
"KCR himself was a minister in the union cabinet of the UPA government. He is aware of the legal complications faced by the then Congress government in providing reservation for the Muslim community. The quota in jobs and education for Muslims was reduced from 5% to 4% to maintain the Supreme Court's ceiling of 50%. KCR needs to change his approach to emulating the Tamil Nadu government. He will have to explain the roadmap on his plans to provide more clarity to the community," he said.
