Malkajgiri MP and senior Congress leader A Revanth Reddy, who was under house arrest, managed to evade the police and reach Pragathi Bhavan on a bike this afternoon.
The police, however, took him into preventive custody then, in the afternoon.
In a dramatic manner, Reddy, known to be a bitter critic of the TRS government, forced his way out of his residence at Jubilee Hills and jumped onto a bike of one of his supporters and rushed to Pragathi Bhavan. As soon as he reached the CM's camp office, however, he was caught by the police and taken into custody.
Tensions escalated at the place as the agitating Congress workers protested against the police.
Speaking to the media as he was whisked away, Reddy said, "Pragathi Bhavan gatelu thaakuthamani annamu... thaaki chupinchamu (we had said that we would gherao Pragathi Bhavan and we have done that)."
He demanded that CM K Chandrashekar Rao immediately hold talks with the striking RTC workers and end the crisis.
He also said that compensation should be paid to the families of the workers who had laid down their lives during the strike.
The MP warned that if the situation continued like this, the four crore people of Telangana would come forward and break the walls of Pragathi Bhavan.
