With the upper stretches of Krishna in Karnataka receiving heavy rains, the cofferdam at Pulichantala was washed away due to heavy flooding on Monday.
According to sources, the massive floods completely damaged the cofferdam, and submerged the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile the Nagarjuna Sagar is receiving a heavy inflow of water, as Karnataka has lifted all its flood gates to discharge the water.
The flood water level touched 573 feet, as against the full reservoir capacity of 590 feet. If the officials at Srisailam dam release 4 lakh cusecs of water, irrigation engineers will lift all flood gates at Sagar, in order to prevent flood damage.
