The former MLA and Congress leader was arrested when he commenced an indefinite fast demanding that the government set up a medical college in Sangareddy town.
The police today arrested former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy when he commenced an indefinite hunger strike demanding that the government set up a medical college in Sangareddy town.
Reddy went in a huge procession accompanied by his followers and people from Sangareddy from the Old Bus Stand centre to the hunger strike venue in front of the Collectorate. However, the police obstructed the rally when it reached the police station area saying that there was no permission for the proposed hunger strike, and detained Reddy.
Congress activists resisted the police when they tried to detain Reddy. Tension prevailed for some time thereafter as the police chased the activists. Later, the police arrested Reddy and shifted him to the Pulkal Police station.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy vowed that he would not stop his movement till a medical college was sanctioned for Sangareddy. The police could not stop his hunger strike with the arrests, he said, and warned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao that he would pull up the latter on the medical college issue if he ever came to Sangareddy.
He also said that there had been no trouble from the police though he was waging movements for the last six months for the sake of a medical college.
