Senior Congress leader and RTC chairman M Satyanarayana Rao, on Sunday, called on the political leaders and the people of Telangana to maintain restraint and observe calm till the time the Srikrishna Committee submits its report on the issue of bifurcation of the State.
Speaking at a meeting of the Telangana Congress monitoring group, Satyanarayana told district organizers present at the meet that a calm head was most advisable under the circumstances.
Rao expressed optimism that the party high command would give in to the overwhelming sentiments prevalent in the region and make their dream of a separate Telangana state a reality.
The senior Congress leader reminded the gathering that AICC president Sonia Gandhi had assured that she would take the right decision at the right time on the separate statehood issue. He said that the party has total faith in Gandhi's words.
Rao said that the Congress would never deceive the people of the region, and asked the people to wait till the Srikrishna Committee report was submitted.
The Congress leader accused other parties of deceiving the people of the region by frequently changing their stand on the issue, especially after the famous 9th December 2009 statement made by Union home minister P Chidambaram.
Rao revealed that he had met Sonia Gandhi along with 25 other leaders from Telangana and had explained the overwhelming demand for a separate State to her. The RTC Chairman also revealed that he had briefed the AICC chief of the region's history and the separate statehood struggle.
Retired IAS officer Narendra Luther, law expert Adhitya Krishna, and leaders and intellectuals from the region attended the meeting.
