The noted Bonalu celebrations at the goddess Simhavahini Mahankali temple in Lal Darwaja in the Old City were held in a very muted way this year, without public participation, due to the coronavirus pandemic and consequent official restrictions.
Temple Committee Chairman J Lakshmi Narayan Goud and his family members offered bonam to the goddess at the temple during the morning hours.
Temple priests performed the Bonalu rituals in the morning and Kalyanam in the evening.
The public were blocked from the ritual by police through barricades and traffic diversions in the area.
According to reports Rangam will be conducted at the temple on Monday, followed by Potharaju rituals.
After the ritual, Goud said that his family requested the goddess to eliminate the virus and enable people to attend the next year.
