Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Monday warned unscrupulous liquor traders that the government would initiate action against those liquor shops which sold liquor for more than the stated Maximum Retail Price.
Talking to media persons while participating in a program in the district on Monday, Venkata Ramana said the government would cancel the licenses of the liquor retailers if they sold liquor at more than the MRP approved.
The minister said that the rules and regulations for selling liquor would be strengthened, and severe action would be initiated against those who violated the laws.
He said that the department was receiving complaints that the distilleries were diverting the use of spirit for other purposes. To prevent this, the department would strengthen the task force in the state, he pointed out.
The government would announce a policy on whether to continue belt shops under law, or abolish the system, he stated.
