Senior TDP leader Lal Jan Basha died in a tragic road accident on Thursday. He was 56.
The accident occurred when the car he was travelling in hit a road divider near Narketpalli in Nalgonda district while he was coming from Guntur to Hyderabad. He died on the spot while the driver sustained serious injuries.
Basha was elected to the Lok Sabha from Guntur in 1991 in a stunning victory over veteran parliamentarian Acharya N G Ranga. However, he lost subsequent elections to the Lok Sabha from Guntur and Narsaraopet constituencies. He was later elected to the Rajya Sabha.
At the time of his death, he was serving as the party's Vice President. He was also the Chairman of the Bombay Mercantile Bank.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and leaders of other political parties have expressed grief over Basha's death. (INN)
