Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will launch the much-awaited L B Nagar - Ameerpet stretch of the Hyderabad Metro Rail in the last week of July or the first week of August. That will mean Corridor I - Miyapur to L B Nagar - is fully operational.
This was stated by MA&UD and IT Minister K T Rama Rao at a press conference at the L B Nagar Metro Station on Wednesday.
The minister however said that there was no scope for reducing the ticket prices as of now. He said that the metro rail travel cost in Hyderabad was not that high compared to the costs in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and some other cities. And since the Hyderabad Metro was being taken up on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, the cost borne by the companies involved needed to be recovered by them, and there was thus no immediate scope to reduce the prices of the tickets, the minister said.
Once the operations of the metro were launched in Corridor II (JBS to Falaknuma), too, there could be a chance to ponder upon a price cut, he said.
The Hitech City metro station (Corridor III) would be launched in October, he added.
The Hyderabad Metro boasted of high-end technology, innovative planning and world-class facilities to cater to the changing needs of the people, KTR claimed. Parking problems at the stations would be sorted out soon through multi-level parking facilities, he said. The RTC would also soon start more buses to transport people from the stations, he said.
Earlier, the minister had a trial run of the train from the Ameerpet metro station to the L B Nagar metro station along with Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Metro Rail Chief N V S Reddy and others.
