TRS working president K T Rama Rao today promised to adopt the Munugodu Assembly constituency if his party's candidate was voted as its MLA in the upcoming by-election.
Addressing the huge rally at Chandur in the constituency, KTR said that the by-election was a contest between the arrogance of a "contractor" (referring to former MLA Rajagopal Reddy) and the self-respect of the Munugodu people.
"I am ready to adopt the Munugodu constituency if our party's candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy is elected as its MLA. I will take complete responsibility for the development of the constituency, and will review its progress with utmost care. I appeal to the people to cast their vote for development," KTR said.
Criticizing Rajagopal Reddy for "forcing" the by-election on the people of Munugodu, KTR said that Reddy had done nothing to the constituency when he was its MLA, and had joined the BJP only after getting a contract worth Rs 18,000 crore.
"Since Rajagopal Reddy got the contract of Rs 18,000 crore, he feels that he can purchase votes like a product in the market with money. People should teach him an unforgettable lesson that there is no place for such arrogant and greedy persons in a democracy," KTR said.
Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to implement the recommendations of the Niti Aayog which had suggested an allocation of Rs 19,000 crore to Telangana for the eradication of fluorosis, KTR said that Modi didn't deliver a single promise during his eight years in power, and that the BJP had no right to seek votes in Munugodu.
Later, KTR visited the residence of Amshala Swamy in Shivannagudem village and had lunch with him. Swamy is a victim of fluorosis, and the State government has sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a double bedroom house for him. KTR enquired about the progress of his house, and asked the party leaders to extend help for its completion.
Earlier, KTR along with minister Jagadish Reddy and Left leaders accompanied Prabhakar Reddy as he filed his nomination papers for the by-election.
