As the upcoming Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly by-election is drawing closer, the exchange of allegations between the political parties in the state is turning more and more heated.
Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao today slammed Congress leader and former minister K Jana Reddy, claiming that the latter had made misleading comments about the TRS government's much-hyped Mission Bhagiratha.
Speaking at a press conference along with Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud, Rao said, "The Congress leader has been lying about Mission Bhagiratha. He has claimed that his village, Anumula, has not yet been covered by the scheme. This is simply not true - the scheme was started in Nalgonda district, where the village is located, three years ago, and has since been completed as well. Therefore, the Mission Bhagiratha water supply systems are providing water to all the villages in the district, including Jana Reddy's. It is clear that he is lying for political reasons."
"However, Jana Reddy's remarks are hardly surprising as the leaders of the Congress are accustomed to making false charges of corruption and irregularities against our government. This, even when they are themselves benefitting from the various welfare schemes being implemented by us," the minister added.
The tirade against the Congress leader was prompted by the comments he made about the ruling party earlier in the day, when he announced that he would contest the upcoming by-election for the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat as the Congress candidate.
Speaking to the media, he levelled various charges against the state government, and said, "I am contesting the by-election not to gain power or glory, but to question the TRS government regarding its utter failure to work for the people it has been elected to represent."
The Congress leader then singled out Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and alleged that the latter had become famous for his "false promises".
"The CM makes countless promises to the people of the state. However, it is a widely known fact that he then promptly forgets about the promises. After promising the SC community that the government would give them land, KCR has not distributed even 10,000 acres to the community so far. He had also claimed that he would not seek votes for the upcoming elections in the state if his government failed to complete the Mission Bhagiratha works. However, he is doing so even though my village is yet to benefit from the scheme," he added.
