Hyderabad | 22nd November 2022
Officials of the Income Tax department from Delhi and Hyderabad today conducted searches on the properties of Telangana Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy and his family members in connection with suspected tax evasion and having assets beyond known sources of income.

This is the second time that IT raids have been conducted on a Telangana minister - the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department had raided the house and offices of Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar two weeks back.

The IT officials launched simultaneous searches at the premises of the minister, his son Mahender Reddy, son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, brother and other family members in and around Hyderabad and the Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

Mahendra Reddy and Rajasehkar Reddy look into the affairs of the educational institutions and real estate businesses of the family.

The searches were also done at the residences of the family members at Palm Meadows villas at Kompally.

The minister was present during the searches, which began in the early hours of Tuesday.

Some reports said that officials reportedly seized Rs 2 crore in cash from a Raghunath Reddy, a person close to Malla Reddy's son Mahender Reddy. Raghunath Reddy stays at Jeedimetla in the city.

Officials reportedly also seized Rs 2 crore in cash from Trishul Reddy, a close relative of Malla Reddy.

The officials also checked the income records of the institutions run by the Malla Reddy group following allegations of tax evasion.

The searches continued throughout Tuesday.
