The Election Commission of India has decided to recommend the suspension of the Vikarabad district collector Omar Jaleel for violation of the election code during the recent Telangana Assembly elections.
According to information received, Congress leaders Marri Shashidhar Reddy, G Prasad and others had lodged a complaint with CEO Rajat Kumar alleging violation of the poll code by Jaleel. They alleged that the district Collector had got opened the EVMs and VVPATs when the matter was in court, which was violation of the poll code.
The Election Commission took serious note of this and recommended the suspension of the Collector to the state government.
The Collector claimed that he was not aware of a court case in the matter, and that he had not done anything intentionally. However the EC was not convinced, and felt that the Collector had ignored the CEO suggestion on the issue.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson Niranjan welcomed the orders of the Election Commission to recommend the suspension of Jaleel.
