Telangana Health Minister Etala Rajender today said that with the Centre's guidelines and permission, a coronavirus test centre was started in Gandhi Hospital in the city.
He said that till now the state had been sending samples to Pune for testing, but from today, the virology lab in the hospital would be used for that.
The minister was speaking after inspecting the arrangements at the hospital including the virology lab and other facilities.
Rajender also said that people coming from China would undergo tests, observations and treatment for 14 days, the virus incubation period. Persons suspected of being infected, from both AP and Telangana, will be tested and provided treatment here.
Doctors and staff at Fever and Chest hospitals were also ready to check for and treat coronavirus, he said.
Rajender also sought to allay fears over the spread of the virus in Telangana. "No one has tested positive in our state, and people should not worry. And all government hospitals in the state are equipped with facilities, and with adequate staff with masks and sanitizers, to handle any patients," he said.
The state government has already announced a high alert on coronavirus.
