According to sources, Rs. 25 crores of the Rs. 50 crores sanctioned for developmental activities in the district of Adilabad have thus far been utilised for the construction of schools, hospitals and hostels for girls.
However, the situation of the ongoing construction projects are reportedly miserable, with the foundations of the constructions being frail. Upon closer examination, it was found that the spread of cement between bricks was irregular and, at times, even missing.
The residents of nondescript pockets of the district lament that such constructions could prove fatal, as the structures are bound to collapse.
This discovery follows the collapse of a government school in the district a week ago, wherein poor contruction was cited to be the cause of the accident. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, as the summer vacations are on and the school was deserted.
Authorities concerned, however, deny any irregularities in the construction of the structures. An official reportedly stated that there was a lack of contractors willing to take up the deal of constructing governmet schools and hospitals in Adilabad as they feared that their profit margins would be narrowed due to the "strict" attitude of the government officials.
The officer maintained that the quality of construction was not being compromised upon.
